My first wedding of the season. As a wedding photographer in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland this is often filled with a lot of questions…what is the weather going to be like? Rain is a HUGE possibility. What have I learned this year to incorporate new? That new will be shown soon:) What will my first wedding of the year look like? And wow…I was absolutely blown away by this day and couple. Come on…a gold wedding dress? Yep…amazing.
This was a wedding of best friends. Andy and Jessica have such a closeness and ease with each other…their love is simple and beautiful. But a wedding of best friends was not just the couple…this was a wedding where all their friends came together to complete the most amazing of days…and it was incredible!! They decorated the venue, setup a coffee bar, a friend cooked ALL THE FOOD…yes! Amazing. And another friend did all the flowers…which were out of this world. Various friends dj’d, sang, played music and coordinated the day. Honestly…I felt so unbelievably honoured to be there and to be included in this family affair. It was such a beautiful experience.
I loved how Andy and Jessica had a day that was them…she wore a gold wedding dress, he wore an awesome grey suit. They had a waffle brunch…AMAZING! I am still dreaming of that and NEED the recipe! She made all the scones for the Mimosa cocktail hour. We did the couples portraits after the reception. The cake was made my the mother of the bride. The guest favours were cookies that the groom and his family made…a recipe handed down from their grandmother. I don’t know if they’ll give me that recipe…but I’m going to ask!
I am so happy to share these images with you…and proud of what was documented of the day. This wedding spoke so closely to my heart. If you are inspired by the images please get in touch…I love to meet people…and leave comment love for the couple!
Jessica and her ladies all got ready at her place and it was so fun seeing how much they cared for one another.
These two are such a thoughtful couple and being in their home showed how tied all their loves and community are. Her shoes were a favourite pair she spray painted to match her dress. Little decorations all around that represented different parts of life. Wooden signs that she made…and that her grandfather made too. Everything seemed to seep meaning.
Oh how I love this look between Jessica and her mom.
Andy and Jessica had all these great chalkboard signs throughout their venue…pretty sure they made them all too! Wow, eh?
I’ve started realizing that I photograph a little differently now that I have a young son. There are moments that I glossed over a bit before but now they hold such meaning. This is one of them. A mom and her boy before saying “I do.” Oh man…I even cry now thinking of the day when this may be me. I love this moment.
Jessica needed to get into the room before the ceremony…so Andy needed to move and we had an unplanned “first snuggle”. It was so cute and their excitement was sweet.
All the flowers were done by Jessica’s friend in Vancouver who is a florist…Johanna from Celsia Florist!! All of you need to call her. Her work is AMAZING and she created the most beautiful bouquets and arrangements. Wow.
After the exchange of rings, the couple prayed together and spent a few moments alone. I loved this. It was so beautiful and I imagine a moment that they distinctly remember.
I often ask my couples if they would like 5 minutes after the ceremony to just be alone. 5 minutes to hug and exclaim “We are married!! Wow!” So these two had a few precious moments before the busyness of the rest of the day, to spend huggin and laughing and smiling…all alone…well, except for me and my cameras:)
Wedding party…you all are AWESOME. You made this the most fun time.
As you have probably noticed, there are a lot of kids in their families…and they are so loved by their aunts and uncles.
Aren’t you dieing over these flowers? Really…could they be any prettier?
Jess, you are gorgeous. Wow.
Ok…so…as we were doing couples portraits Andy and Jessica mentioned that their friend, who did ALL the food, was so busy that she wasn’t in the reception and that they barely saw her. Then when editing the photos I think I FOUND HER! In this image all the guests were cheering the couple away and someone in an apron and a huge smile was there. To the cook…amazing. You created the most delicious food and I am amazed…in was absolutely incredible.
After the reception we spent a few hours together…exploring and relaxing together. I kind of wish all couples had brunch weddings and photos after!!
Andy, Jessica…thank you. I had the most wonderful experience and was so thrilled to be there. What an amazing day you created and I am thrilled to walk this life with you both.
