There is something special about seeing an extended family come together. Adult children interact differently. Aunts and Uncles share special bonds with nieces and nephews. Grandma’s are cherished, Grandpa’s are adored and there is always some sort of great fun to be had. The Visser family had all of this…plus some adorable kids. Oh man. Since having a little boy my heart melts for little chubby boy hands but the girls in this family are soooooo sweet and SO BRAVE! Look to the end and you’ll see how brave they are! But then…boys with a sweet short long hair style…I think you can tell that this is a family full of great personality and awesomeness.
Visser’s, thank you for having me a part of your family for these few hours. It was so much fun and I want to hang out at the Pit every weekend with you!
The session started with one immediate groupings mini-session. During extended family photos I like to do 20 minutesish with each little grouping to take some individual photos and I am always so glad to have this time to get to know each part better. This little family has sweet kids…no fighting or rivalries here! They authentically love each other and I think the little boy wants to marry his sister when he grows up. I know…sweet, eh? Not marry his mommy like most little boys want to at some point…but he loves his sister that much.
I don’t know what he said…but apparently it was pretty funny:)
Then the rest of the family showed up and I was so happy…they are all so photogenic and happy!! AND…the little boy matching shirts…completely unplanned:)
Greta…you look so great!
I think this might be one of my favourites from the day. Love the laughter and joy. And Greta’s joy (grandma)…so sweet.
Ok…so everyone got quickly into a photo here…
…all but one. Drew decided to not join immediately. Can you tell how much everyone wants him in the photo? Come on Drew!
I know this photos looks like all the rest…BUT IT ISN’T! Do you see the oldest grandsons expression? Oh man. Love it. Love how funny he finds his little cousin. Truly…isn’t this the best family?
This little family grouping I have known for a long time. Matt and I worked together at Langley Christian (go Lightning) but he has recently immigrated to the land of the Orange Shirts (Unity Christian). But a long time ago, when first meeting Matt and then Carole…I had decided that I wanted to be friends with her. Carole is AWESOME. But we never really were in the same circles and time frames together…UNTIL this year when we both ended up in the same Bible Study Mom’s Group!! And my chance occurred, to officially force my friendship on her:) Carole, you are fabulous and I am SO glad that we have had time to get to know each other. Matt is great. You are AWESOME. Sorry Matt. Now, they also have two cuties with such fun personalities.
See their profiles? Fun, eh?
For some reason I love this photo. Something about the candid moment, random expressions…and Drew: pursed lips, chubby baby fingers, furrowed eyebrows.
The kids were pretty excited at this point because I had the promise of a creek and water ahead of them!
And family #3. A Mom and Dad who are just so happy and have the BEST laughs! Sweetest (and bravest) little girl. And the boys. The locks on one are remarkable and they are teenagers who still adore their family, give hugs and cuddles to their grandparents and enjoy laughing and the company of each other. I need to chat with the parents…how do you raise such nice kids?
And the two people who started it all. Maybe it is because I spend so much time looking at these faces when editing…that I think a lot about the people I see, sometimes pray for them and always reflect on life while working. One of the things I thought on was how amazing that all this love and joy came from these two. And they would never have known so long ago what the Lord had planned for their lives and family. It makes growing older exciting to see what is to come.
Two of the handsomest grandparents ever, eh?
So now the fun really begins! I grew up down the road from here and this is where we went in the summer to escape the heat…the Pit(and not the one at UBC)! This rope swing has been a mainstay in many kids lives and it was fun to share it with these families! At first I thought it would just be the older boys who would be into it…but nope! Little sister jumped ahead of most of her brothers!
The two littlest may not have been able to hold onto a rope but that did not stop them AT ALL from getting into the water! It was a tad cold:)
The “older” boys wanted to join into the fun too:)
So, now when this was happening I was a little nervous. You see…this is a little kid! But little did I know that he has such confidence, bravery, strength and experience! He held onto that rope and let go at the perfect time! After I found out that he’ll jump off of boathouse roofs into lakes…yep…such fun!! When he was helped out of the water he was so proud too:)
Little Miss Precious had no fear as well! So much so that when she didn’t let go of the rope and swung back to her dad she wasn’t fazed…and he just jumped on the rope with her and they finished the drop together!
And to end…another one of my favourites. Wet Grandma snuggles. Love love love.
